Japan Post Raises Rates June 1st

Japan Post will raise international shipping rates from June 1, 2022. Rates for EMS, Parcel Post Airmail, Parcel Post SAL, and Parcel Post Surface Mail will all increase. Generally, I do not use Parcel Post Airmail or Parcel Post SAL for shipping my packages, but customers using EMS and Parcel Post Surface Mail (shipping by boat) will see an increase in shipping costs.

It does not appear that e-packet Airmail or e-packet Light SAL (small package rate for parcels under 2kg) that I usually use for non EMS packages will be affected, however these services are currently unavailable for most of the world anyway due to COVID and the war in Ukraine.

You can see the new rates and which zones they apply to in this English language press release:

Transportation costs and delivery costs overseas have been rising significantly. To continue providing stable international mail service to our customers, some of our postal rates will be revised and tentative extra charges for EMS to some zones and international parcels handled as air mail will be added for the time being. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

The charts show shipping rates and shipping types even for countries to which the services are currently suspended. When all services are functioning again, the rates will be as the tables show. Just because a country appears on the chart does not mean services have resumed for that country.
